There has been a misconception that reciprocal links are absolutely bad for websites. A reciprocal link is a mutual link between two objects, commonly between two websites to ensure mutual traffic. This has some truth to it but not the whole truth; can be helpful if the site that your linking to is relevant to your website, visitors, and the link texts. You have to keep in mind that the sites have to be of value to everyone. Google takes the experience of the user very serious.
1. If a link is broken or has nothing to do with what your website provides then Google will not take your website serious- just another website taking up Cyber Space. Getting Google to take your website as an authority in a particular is what we all strive for as web site owners in order to move up in the Page Ranks of major Search Engines, Search Engine Results, and increase of traffic. If your website provides valuable information that consumers are looking for, Google will notice this through the increase of traffic your website is gaining and amount of back links pointing to your website.
2. If you have a lot of these “Bogus” links than your website will be considered as a Spam Site. That means that your Page Rank will drop to 0 and the Search Engines will have you listed in the end of the Search Engine Results; this means that you’ll be at the bottom of the food chain where the Spider Roaches & Internet leeches are:)- So let’s avoid this, shall we.
3. You don’t want a reciprocal link from a “Link Page.” These pages offer no kind of link value to anyone, especially not to you. Link Pages doesn’t offer any substantial link value since there are hundreds of links on these types of pages, besides they don’t even get much traffic. If a website has been black listed and you guys share a reciprocal link, then you’ll get your website on Google’s Blacklist radar. By this point, your walking on thin ice so you want to make sure that the reciprocal link is of value to everyone.
In conclusion, it’s the PR quality of the links not the quantity of the links. 20 High Page Ranked websites offers more value than 2,000 links from websites with a Page Rank with 0 or 1. You’ll get offers from SEO companies that will offer you the moon and the stars but at the end of the day, your site won’t benefit from their efforts. You’ll want a SEO Services Company that can deliver results, not promises. You’ll want your top keywords in the link text. Since this is the way the Search Engines will know what your website is about.
